Dear Members and Patrons,

This will be our last meeting for this year. That means Party Time – a time when we can rejoice and have fun. We will get to see some artwork from our two scholarship winners and will get to meet the 2015 Sweet Corn Festival King and Queen. I feel that this has been a great year. I would personally like to thank the Board for being easy to work with and for getting a lot accomplished. All the members of the Board are staying on the Board for next year. That makes my job easier. Anything I needed or didn’t know how to do, the Board pitched in and we got the job done. Let’s all paint this summer or try something different that we have not tried in the arts. I feel that is what makes art so interesting. There is so much to learn and we never get bored. Have fun, enjoy the summer, and paint, paint, paint. Our next meeting is our June Social starting at 7 pm. There will be no Board meeting.

Sandy Kinnamon, AWS

President

Each member may bring one or two paintings or other artwork for the POPULAR CHOICE JUDGING. Registration will be from 6 to 7 pm. As members arrive, each piece of artwork will be given a number. May 2015 Meeting

Our speaker for the night was Frank Francese, who gave a demo of his method or creating realistic, yet abstract looking watercolors. He uses a full sheet of Arches 140# watercolor paper, usually a large flat brush, and lots of water and color. He does no drawing on the paper, just following a black-and-white sketch he made, usually on site. He starts by drawing the background, saving the whites for highlights. He adds shapes in color. This demo was of a street scene, so the shapes were buildings and streets. He literally builds the town on paper, putting in the major shapes first, then adding some details to define the particular building. In one hour, Frank completed a full-size watercolor, commenting and joking, and wowing everyone in the audience. Frank commented to paint fast to paint from the heart.

Paintings are available for sale. The artists are members of the ThursdayClass/Paint-in group.  We painted together for over two years with Misuk Goltz instructing and coordinating. The artists are both advanced and intermediate watercolorists.  At the show you will find a variety of subjects including portraits expressed in beautiful watercolor.

You may contact Shirlee Bauer at bauershirlee@gmail.com or Connie S. Gifford at gifford.connie@gmail.com for additional information.
