APRIL 2010 NEWSLETTER
Dear Members and Patrons of the Arts:
Spring must be here—they took away one of my sleeping hours! Yes, I have sprung forward an hour as all of you have done, the snow is off the ground as I write this note (hallelujah!), and the plants are starting to peek out (my advice to them is to stay put for awhile longer, but they won't listen to me!). All kidding aside, it is great to see a break in old man winter's crusty attitude, and I'm looking forward to trimming up my little park a bit, and adding a few more plants. And, I'm looking forward to a bit more painting, as I hope all of you are as well. To get you more inspired, why don't you plan now to attend our next Fairborn Art Association meeting on Tuesday, April 6, at 7:00 pm. A Board Meeting will begin at 6:00 pm. So come along and bring a spouse and/or another friend, and I'll plan to see you there!

APRIL SPEAKER—JERRY EDWARDS, PORTRAITS IN OIL
Jerry Edwards, one or our own members, will be our April speaker, doing a demonstration on how he creates a portrait in oil. He will bring a finished painting, the model who posed for it, and show from beginning, through the process to the finished product. Jerry retired from Wright-Patterson AFB after 30 years (20 years as a civilian employee) working as an engineer. He is married, has 7 grown children, and 15 grandchildren (right now)! Jerry started his art training at the Dayton Art Institute in 1984 with a drawing course with Abner Cope. He continued with drawing classes at DAI and Sinclair Community College until 2004, when he started painting classes at Wright State University, Sinclair, and then Central State, following Abner Cope for instruction. His main interest is portrait painting. He now paints at The Cannery on Thursday and Friday afternoons and at the High Street Gallery from 10:00 to 1:00 most days. He is the mentor for the Dayton Academy of Traditional Art, sponsored by the Dayton Society of Painters and Sculptures. Come join us to welcome another of our talented members.
