HOLIDAY FINE ART & CRAFT SALE
The 2011 Holiday Fine Art & Craft Sale was very successful. Participating members made $2939.00 with no commission taken by the F.A.A. Jane Trame, Chairperson, would like to thank everyone who participated in one way or another to make this such a successful Sale. Members helped decorate, set up and take down the artwork and equipment, sit the Gallery, and provide snacks. I would especially like to thank Sue Red, Treasurer, and her family for tabulating the sales and disbursements. This Holiday Sale had the second best sales since the Sale was started ten years ago. In order for this event to continue, one or two persons are needed to be chairperson or co-chairpersons. Jane said that she would be glad to help that person or those persons organize the 2012 event. Please call Jane Trame, 937-902-8875, or let an officer on the Board know that you're interested.

Photography Show Being Planned
Happy New Year members! As I had said before I would like to have photo show in June, after the Social. I need your help now. I have already gotten some of you to sign up for the show. I'll be sending around a sign-up sheet sometime in the first of the year, or call me . I need to do this early in order to answer questions. I can't tell you how many you can bring if you don't sign up. Here is what I do know now. We be setting up the show on Wednesday, June 6 from 10–12 am, and 1–3 pm. I'll need someone to help with that. We'll be open Sundays, June 10, 17, and 24 from 1–4 and I'll need at least two people for each of those days to sit in the Gallery. On Sunday, June 24, we'll be taking the show down. Everything must be taken down so that the next show can go up. So I'll need someone to help with that also. Each week that we are open, you should have some snacks to serve our guests. So get busy and get things framed up and tell ALL your friends and family about this event. It will be up to us to make it successful.

JEAN GRASTORF, A.W.S., N.W.S., T.W.S.A. WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP
The Fairborn Art Association is sponsoring a 5-day watercolor workshop for intermediate to advanced artists, instructed by Jean Grastorf, entitled, “Designing With Pattern and Texture.” The workshop will be held Monday through Friday, April 30–May 4, 2012, in the Fairborn Art Association Gallery located in the rear of the Fairborn Senior Apartment Building, 221 N. Central Ave., Fairborn. Workshop participants will be using the beauty of transparent watercolors to interpret the shapes and colors of their own unique visions. This workshop will emphasize the creation of paintings with the freedom and spontaneity of flowing pigments while still retaining the beauty of the white paper. Daily demonstrations will include Jean’s “pouring luminous washes” technique—a fun way to balance “chaos” and control. In addition to traditional watercolors, the class will investigate the use of acrylics, gouache, and metallics. Each day will also include discussions on making stronger paintings through more dynamic composition and color. Individual interpretation of representational subjects will be stressed so that participants can make a more personal, creative statement. Individual attention as well as group critiques will aid the class in making the “pouring” technique a part of their interpretation of the light that brings life to whatever it falls on, in, and around. Jean has won the First Award and Silver Star from the National Watercolor Society, First Awards from the Florida, Southern, and Transparent Watercolor Society of America. She was named one of America’s 20 best teachers by Watercolor magazine and inclusion in “Who’s Who In America, Who’s Who In American Art, and Who’s Who in American Women.” There are only two (2) places left at the present time; if interested in registering for this workshop, please sign up soon. Cost for this 5-day workshop is $225 F.A.A. member, $240 non-member. To register for the workshop, please send a non-refundable check for $40 made payable to the Fairborn Art Association, to Jane Trame, 8881 Haddix Rd., Fairborn, Ohio 45324. For further information contact Jane at 937-902-8875, 937-878-1009 or janefvt@yahoo.com.
SUSAN WEBB TREGAY, N.W.S., T.W.S.A., W.H.S. WORKSHOP
The Fairborn Art Association is sponsoring a 4-day watermedia workshop for intermediate to advanced artists, instructed by Susan Webb Tregay, entitled, “Master Disaster, Five New Strategies for Outstanding Paintings!” The workshop will be held Monday through Thursday, October 1–4, 2012, in the Fairborn Art Association Gallery located in the rear of the Fairborn Senior Apartment Building, 221 N. Central Ave., Fairborn. Tired of wimpy watercolors? Mystified as to how to take your work to the next level—or beyond? Susan can show you how. In this workshop you will create a “Flip Book” of color and design strategies that will take the mystery out of all of those elements and principles of design combinations. Taking a painting to completion is, by far, the hardest part of art. But unless that painting is finished, it gets tucked away. This workshop is designed to help through the last 20 percent of your painting. Finishing is not magic. It is simply methodical repetition of these five steps. You’ll have no more wimpy watercolors. You will learn how to master disaster. Throughout this workshop artists will be working on two or three unfinished paintings. Ugly, problematic paintings are the best! Then these strategies will be applied to a fresh painting or two. Susan recently won 2nd place in the Miami Watercolor Society’s 2011 Online Exhibition. She also won an award at Watercolor USA, which gave her signature membership in the Watercolor Honor Society. Palette Magazine #38 featured Susan on the cover and in a colorful seven-page article. Cost for this workshop is $180 F.A.A. member, $195 non-member. Limit 22 students. To register for this workshop, please send a non-refundable check for $40 made payable to Fairborn Art Association, to Jane Trame, 8881 Haddix Rd., Fairborn, Ohio 45324. For further information contact Jane at 937-902-8875, 937-878-1009 or janefvt@yahoo.com.
