September 2009

PRESIDENT’S COMMENTS

Dear Members and Patrons of the Arts:

Well, I can hardly believe it, but all of a sudden our first meeting in September is coming up—Tuesday, September 1, to be more precise.  I hope all of you have had a wonderful summer and are ready to get back to some interesting art topics at the Fairborn Art Association.  This is a fun organization, isn't it?  I am proud to have been associated with it for all these years, and I hope you feel the same. While we have been away, lots of background work has taken place relative to the Association, not the least of which has been the Sweet Corn Festival that Lori Luckner, Jane Trame, and Sue and Loren Red work so hard on and which provides us with most of our operating income.  And Jackie Albright has been working hard along with others getting our internet website on line, and this presidential note may be included if all goes as intended.  Thanks to all for your hard work!

So, I hope to see all of you on Tuesday, September 1, to kick off the new season.  As usual, the meeting will start at 7:00 p.m., with a board meeting starting at 6:00 p.m.

Jim McCoy
President

COLORED PENCIL/PEN & INK WITH TOM KINARNEY

Come and enjoy a couple of mediums that will surprise you with their ease of use and dramatic, beautiful results.  Experiment with either or both and see how they can be combined with watercolor or other mediums.  The 8-week session begins Tuesday, September 22 from 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.  Cost is $70.  Please email the gallery at fairbornart@att.net or just show up at the Gallery on the 22nd.

HOLIDAY FINE ART & CRAFT SALE

It won’t be long until our annual Christmas Fine Art & Craft Sale December 5–13 in the Gallery! Hope you’ve been busy painting and making arts and crafts for this popular and successful Sale. More information will follow next month.

OUTDOOR PICNIC TABLE

We would like to thank Charlie and Mary Hart for sanding and refinishing the outdoor picnic table. They did a wonderful job! We all appreciate their hard work, a labor of love. It will definitely last longer now. THANK YOU CHARLIE & MARY!

AREA ART SHOWS

TRI-ART TRIO
Marianne Bachman, Sandra Hill and Tomoko Parry are local award winning artists who will be exhibiting their art at the downtown Dayton Convention Center from August 13 through September 30.  The show is on the second floor of the Convention Center just up the escalator and is free to the public.  The Convention Center entrance is located at 22 E Fifth Street and there is usually parking on South Jefferson Street.

Marianne, Sandra and Tomoko are all members of the Tri-Art Club and thus decided to call themselves the Tri-Art Trio.  Tri-Art is a local downtown Dayton art organization which meets the fourth Friday morning during the fall and winter months. Sandra and Tomoko are also members of the Fairborn Art Association.

GLEN HELEN ASSOCIATION 50TH ANNIVERSARY FESTIVAL
The Glen Helen Association will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2010, kicking off with a juried art show as part of a 2-week festival. Beginning on July 2nd and running through the 16th, the art show will be held in the Glen Helen Building on Corry Street in Yellow Springs and will include no more than thirty artists. It will be open for both two-dimensional art and photography, with a maximum of six pieces per artist.  The subject matter will be limited to either Glen Helen or the village of Yellow Springs, and may be either plein aire or done from photos.

There will be first, second, and third prizes of $250, $150, and $100. Judging will be by reception patrons attending the opening evening.  Participating artists will be provided with two free tickets, and will be asked to attend that reception themselves to meet the public. Please email requests for information to joanhorn@att.net.
